Drunk passenger killed after allegedly grabbing steering wheel while on I-94

DETROIT – A 28-year-old woman died Sunday after reportedly grabbing the steering wheel of a car, causing it to crash.

The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, on I-94, near Chene Street.

According to authorities, the woman was arguing with the driver and grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to hit the right concrete wall, cross all lanes and hit the left concrete wall. Police said she had been drinking prior was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

A 1-year-old and 2-year-old who were restrained in the car were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the driver had not been drinking.

The investigation is ongoing.
