According to court documents, Valleau shouted racist, sexual, and derogatory comments about the mail carrier and Harris. He then attempted to attack her through an open passenger window and only stopped when she sprayed him with mace.

When taken into custody, police said he continued to use racist and sexist slurs about the letter carrier.

After a three-day trial, a jury unanimously found that Valleau intentionally selected the letter carrier as a target because of her actual or perceived race or color. It took two hours for the jury to convict him of assaulting a federal employee.

He is scheduled to be sentenced May 27.
