Man charged for causing serious injury to Eastpointe police officer after traffic stop

Incident occurred on Tuesday

Arron Trotter, 23, of Detroit has been charged in connection with a traffic stop in Eastpointe.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (Feb. 25) after an Eastpointe police officer conducted the traffic stop on a Ford Crown Victoria on Gratiot Avenue.

Officials said the driver was arrested for having an open warrant.

Trotter, who was a passenger, was asked to leave the vehicle because it was being towed.

It is alleged that Trotter would not obey officers' commands and take his hands out of his pockets.

Trotter continued to refuse officers' commands and was told he was being placed under arrest.

It is alleged that Trotter resisted arrest, causing injury to one of the officers.

Once handcuffed, Trotter was found to have Suboxone and a loaded handgun. The injured officer required surgery.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Trotter with the following:

  • Count 1: Assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer causing serious impairment, a 15-year felony
  • Count 2: Felony firearm, a two-year mandatory felony
  • Count 3: Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a five-year felony
  • Count 4: Felony firearm, a two-year mandatory felony
  • Count 5: Possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, a five-year felony
  • Count 6: Felony firearm, a two-year mandatory felony
  • Count 7: Carrying a concealed weapon, a five-year felony
  • Count 8: Assaulting /resisting /obstructing a police officer, a two-year felony
  • Count 9: Felony firearm, a two-year mandatory felony
  • Count 10: Possession of a controlled substance, a two-year felony

He was also charged as a habitual fourth offender.

Trotter was arraigned in 38th Eastpointe District Court, where he was given a set bond at $1,000,000 cash/surety only.

If the bond is posted, Trotter is to wear a GPS tether, be on home confinement, not leave the state of Michigan, and have no alcohol, drugs, weapons, or contact with any witnesses.

He was also referred to Community Corrections for a mental health assessment.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 8 a.m., and a preliminary exam is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 8 a.m.
