Police said upon their arrival, they learned that the man had made racially charged comments to two juveniles.

Officials said adult relatives intervened, but the man continued to make racial remarks and subsequently got into a physical altercation with the individuals involved.

Police said the man then moved down the street to the 1000 block of E. Second Street, where he caused damage to the property of the residents and assaulted individuals at the residence.

Officers said they were able to find the 41-year-old man and arrest him before transporting him to the Monroe County Jail.

While in custody, police said the man became combative with jail personnel and sustained minor injuries while being restrained by the staff.

Officers said they then transported the man to an area hospital for treatment, where he spit on one of the officers.

After being medically cleared, officials said he was returned to the jail. During transport back to the jail, the man began kicking the back doors of the patrol vehicle, causing damage.

Officials said charges are being pursued for felonious assault, multiple counts of simple assault, ethnic intimidation, malicious destruction of property (MDOP), false verbal identification, damage to police property, disorderly conduct, resisting and obstructing (R&O), and assaulting a police officer.
