DETROIT – Quick-acting by firefighters helped save the life of an elderly man involved in an early morning house fire on Detroit’s west side.
The fire occurred near West McNichols Road and Wyoming Avenue just before 8 a.m. on Thursday (March 6).
Crews said they arrived around four minutes and 25 seconds and said no smoke was seen.
But crews said they made entry and found an elderly man trapped in the rear of the home where the fire was active.
Police said the man was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital Code 1 for smoke inhalation but is now alert and talking.
“Without them getting here as quickly as they did, my dad would be dead and this is a home that he has lived in for almost 50 years, and he’s a veteran and a retired mail carrier. I have nothing but gratitude for their quickness.”
