Suspected drunk driver arrested, 1 injured in wrong-way crash on Southfield Freeway

Both drivers alert at scene of crash, police say

DETROIT – A suspected drunk driver was arrested after one person was injured in a wrong-way crash on the Southfield Freeway, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway near Joy Road in Detroit. Troopers were responding to calls of a wrong-way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway when a witness reported the crash.

Police said both drivers were alert at the scene of the crash. The passenger in the not-at-fault vehicle was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was arrested at the scene of the crash for suspicion of drunk driving.
