Detroit’s Campus Martius Park ‘once again’ nominated for USA Today’s Best Public Square award

Campus Martius Park won award back-to-back years

DETROIT – The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) announced that Campus Martius Park is once again a contender for USA Today’s 10Best Readers' Choice Award for Best Public Square nationwide.

Having secured the No. 1 spot for the past two years, the park aims to maintain its top ranking in urban placemaking for a third consecutive year, emphasizing the importance of every vote.

Campus Martius Park, a national and international attraction, draws over 4.5 million visitors annually.

The park hosts more than 1,200 activities, entertainment, and events year-round.

Highlights include the Detroit Tree Lighting presented by the DTE Foundation, Movie Nights in the D, and lively gatherings at The Beach and The Rink.

The park’s skating rink has also been recognized with a USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Award.

In 2024, DDP introduced CHALET 313, designed by Gardner White, at the park. The two-story, glass-enclosed lounge offers cozy seating, a vibrant bar, and stunning 360-degree views of The Rink and Detroit’s skyline during the holiday and winter seasons.

Since 2000, DDP, in collaboration with the city of Detroit, has been a leader in designing, constructing, programming, and managing award-winning parks and public spaces, including 18 downtown parks and public spaces, such as Beacon Park, Cadillac Square, and Grand Circus Park.

Campus Martius Park hosts significant events like the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, the Detroit Free Press Marathon, and the Detroit Jazz Festival.

It was also a key venue for the 2024 NFL Draft, attracting 775,000 attendees.

Campus Martius Park has received numerous public space design, management, and programming awards over the past two decades. Located in the heart of Downtown, the park was created in 2003 at Detroit’s point of origin, where Augustus Woodward laid out the city’s plan in 1805.

A panel of experts submits 10Best nominees, and editors narrow the field for the Readers' Choice Awards.

Readers can vote once per category per day.
