Bodies found in basement of home on Detroit’s west side -- What we know

Woman says she left home and returned to find bodies in basement

DETROIT – Police are searching for leads after they discovered two bodies in the basement of a home on Detroit’s west side.

The bodies were discovered on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:45 p.m. in the 8700 block of DeSoto Street.

According to police, a woman living at the home left for about an hour and returned to find her door locked.

The woman told police she could not enter the home, so she entered through a window and searched inside for the people who had locked her door.

“When she entered, she observed a Jane Doe at the bottom of the basement step, obviously deceased. She retreated, 911 was called. Officers made the location after being advised by what she had told them. They entered the location and were looking for additional victims. When they went into the location, they observed a John Doe, a Black male, in the basement, obviously deceased,”

said Detroit police Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett

Police said they found a woman at the bottom of the basement steps and a man deceased in the basement of the home.

Currently, there is no known motive, suspect, or vehicle information related to the incident.

Pritchett is urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

She says the police department is seeking the public’s help to uncover what happened to the victims and to bring justice to their families.
