DETROIT – The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has received a warrant request in the deaths of two children in the parking garage of a Detroit casino.

The 2-year-old and the 9-year-old died from carbon monoxide toxicity.

The prosecutor’s office confirmed Wednesday, March 12, that they received the warrant request, but further details wouldn’t be revealed as no one has officially been charged.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said that the department completed its investigation and submitted the findings to the prosecutor’s office, but that they “have not requested charges to be filed against any family member of the children.”

Bettison added that as part of the prosecutor’s office’s process, “every investigative file it receives from any police agency is listed under the generic name of ‘warrant request.‘”

The two children died Feb. 10 inside the Hollywood Casino parking structure off Beaubien Boulevard.

Officials said five children were sleeping in a van parked inside the structure when the mother noticed her 9-year-old son was not breathing.

While at the hospital, officials said the children’s grandmother reported that one of the other children, a 2-year-old girl, was not breathing, and the friend returned to take her to the hospital as well.

Both children were pronounced dead at the hospital.
