Warren police were sent to a home in the 27000 block of Railroad Street, near 11 Mile Road and west of Van Dyke Road, at around 10:15 p.m. on March 10, 2025, for a domestic disturbance report.
A woman reported her boyfriend, 41-year-old Kenneth Beno, had a knife but left the home on foot before officers arrived.
When Warren police officers arrived, the woman said Beno threatened to hurt officers with a knife.
They began searching north of Railroad Street for Beno and found him in the area of George Merrelli Drive and Lorna Avenue on the railroad tracks.
In the bodycam footage, officers instructed Beno to drop the knife he had in his hand. Beno appeared to refuse to drop the knife.
Beno can be heard in the footage, saying, “Shoot me.” He can also be heard telling the officers that he has a knife.
An officer tried to use a taser on Beno, but he appeared to be unfazed by it.
Two of the four officers at the scene then shot Beno. The police department, in the press conference on Thursday, paused the video before officers discharged their weapons.
As per standard procedure, officers then handcuffed Beno before sending him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
When Commissioner was asked if his death was ruled a suicide by cop, he said, “It certainly looks like it.”
According to the police department, Beno had a history of domestic violence incidents.
