Michigan State Police investigating shooting on I-96 after 2 cars struck by gunfire

DETROIT – Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting in the area of I-96 and Davison, where two cars were struck by gunfire.

A person drove to a police department on March 14, saying a bullet hit his car on eastbound I-96. While talking to the first driver, a second driver came in, saying they were struck by several rounds of gunfire.

It’s unclear where exactly on I-96 their cars were struck by gunfire.

The freeway was shut down on eastbound I-96 local lanes and Meyers Road. Police said no evidence was recovered. At 1 p.m. on Friday, eastbound I-96 near Schaefer was closed to look for evidence.

A suspect or suspect vehicle is not known at this time.

No one was hurt in the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

“Detectives have determined that one of the drivers was the intended target of this shooting and the second driver was an innocent bystander and their vehicle was struck by a stray bullet,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “Detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact 855.MICH.TIP or 800.SPEAK.UP.”
