MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A pursuit in Washington Township ends with a man being shot in the leg by a Michigan State Police trooper.
The incident occurred on Sunday (March 16) at 3:52 p.m., when a Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a “be on the lookout” for a white Jeep Cherokee allegedly involved in a shotgun incident in Shelby Township.

Officials said they located the Jeep at M-53 and 30 Mile Road in Washington Township.
Police said the MCSO deputy used lights and sirens to try to stop the 31-year-old man from Chesterfield Township, but he fled.
Other law agencies, including MSP, assisted following the pursuit until the 31-year-old man drove off the road and into a field on the east side of Van Dyke Avenue, north of 34 Mile Road.
Officials said the man exited his vehicle with a long gun in his hand and ignored law enforcement commands to put the weapon down and to show his hands.
The MSP officer said they fired shots, striking the man in the leg. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said the man was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
He is expected to be turned over to MCSO custody on Monday, March 17.
The MCSO is now the lead investigative agency for the criminal incidents.
Police said they will submit charges to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
The MCSO will not be investigating the officer-involved shooting - Michigan State Police will retain that investigation.
“Currently, there is a lot of on-scene work to do. Detectives from the Third District IRT are processing the scene with our forensic laboratory, writing search warrants, and our drone team is mapping the scene,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “The investigation pends interviews with the suspect as well as review of body and vehicle cameras and any other evidence from the area.”
