Vigilant resident helps prevent injuries in West Bloomfield apartment fire

No injuries were reported

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – A fire ripped through an apartment complex in West Bloomfield that displaced several families.

The fire occurred around 5 p.m. at the Bloomfield On The Green Apartments along Woodrow Wilson Boulevard on Monday (March 17).

Crews told Local 4 that the fire started in the attic and impacted 12 units.

Officials said no one was hurt, thanks in large part to a vigilant resident.

“An alert resident from a different apartment building noticed some smoke coming out of the attic of the apartment and called the management company to investigate it further,” said West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Bryon Turnquist. “Management went in the building and discovered smoke and saw where it was starting to burn through a wall.”

Impacted residents are getting help from the Red Cross as they look for a place to stay.

The adjacent apartment complex also offered up some vacant units for those displaced to stay.
