DEARBORN, Mich. – A $20,000 reward is being offered for information after a teenager was killed in a road rage shooting in Dearborn last month.
The shooting happened at about 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, near Warren Avenue and the Southfield Freeway Service Drive.
Rawan Baseti, 19, of Dearborn Heights, was shot and killed in the altercation.
Police say the teen was driving a black 2018 Jeep Cherokee, with friends also in the vehicle, when they followed a white 2015 Chrysler 200 to get a license plate number after a dangerous encounter with the driver of that vehicle," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said during a press conference on Friday, March 21, 2025.
They headed north on the service drive, before turning east onto Tireman, and then followed for two more miles.
As they reached the intersection of Tireman and West Morrow Circle, the occupants in the suspect vehicle fired shots at the victim’s vehicle and turned onto Cheyenne Street.
Baseti was killed. Her two passengers, both female, were not injured.
“Rawan was beautiful inside and out. To say that my family and I are devastated or heartbroken is an understatement,” said Hani Baseti, the teen’s brother, during the press conference. ”Losing Rawan broke us.”
He urged the community to speak up so that his sister can finally “get the rest she deserves.”
A cash reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information that leads to charges. The reward is sponsored by J&T Crova Towing, the Islamic Center of Detroit and Rod Issa and Sons.
Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or online. All tips will remain anonymous.
“Rawan was a daughter, a sister, but also a daughter to this community. Her life was taken far too soon,” said Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud. “The commitment of this city and this police department is to deploy every resource and asset we have to bring the perpetrators to justice. This is an opportunity to bring closure to this family.”
During the presser, the chief was also asked about the case’s connection to a barricaded situation in Detroit that happened after the shooting.
Shahin said there had been arrests, but those people of interest had been released pending further investigation because charges weren’t brought.
While there are people of interest in the case, the chief stressed they are looking for information on anyone at this point in the investigation.
Shahin urged the public to share any information they had, no matter how small it may seem.
“Rawan was a cherished member of our community whose life was tragically taken in a senseless act of violence,” said Shahin. “If anyone has information, no matter how small, it could be the key that we need to solve this case and bring [the] suspect to justice. I am confident that someone out there has some information that [could help] us solve this case. Rawan and her family deserve justice.”
The Dearborn Police Department is leading the investigation but is working with local, state and federal partners, according to the chief.
They are advising the public to never pursue a vehicle during a traffic altercation and to report whatever information they do have to the police department.
