Woman dies after Oakland County house fire

Fire happened in Commerce Township

A 62-year-old woman died after a house fire at a home in Commerce Township Friday morning, police said. (WDIV)

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 62-year-old woman has died after a house fire in Oakland County Friday morning, officials said.

At about 10 a.m. on March 21, deputies and firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Kara Court in Commerce Township after receiving a report of a fire.

The 911 caller told dispatch that someone was trapped in an upstairs bedroom of the home, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters extinguished the fire and a 62-year-old woman was located.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The fire appears to be accidental, according to detectives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit.

The investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, March 22.

“The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident,” the agency said in a release.
