CANTON, Ohio – The skeletonized remains of an Oakland County man who went missing 31 years ago have finally been identified.
Using DNA, remains found in an Ohio town in 2001 were determined to belong to Anthony Gulley, of Pontiac. His death has been ruled a homicide. He was 24 years old at the time he went missing in 1994.

According to authorities, the month that Gulley was reported missing, police in Akron, Ohio, were looking for George Frederick Washington, a 22-year-old from Michigan who was a suspect in two rapes and an armed robbery. Police believe he shot and killed Gulley in Michigan and came to Ohio to dispose of the body.
Later that month, Washington reportedly killed himself while in a shootout with police.
Seven years after Gulley went missing, “completely skeletonized” remains were found in Canton, Ohio. After more than two decades of work, the remains were identified as Gulley using DNA.
The lab work took nine months.
Police said there is no indication that Gulley was involved in any sort of crime before he was killed.
