DETROIT – Marcus Matthews, a single father of three and owner of 5M Moving Solutions, is facing a significant setback after thieves stole his work truck this week. The theft has rattled his world, forcing him to cancel jobs and impacting his family’s livelihood.
“This moving truck is my livelihood. Without it, I’m already being forced to cancel jobs, and it’s setting my family back significantly,” Matthews said.
He is now reaching out to the community for help in recovering his stolen vehicle.
The white truck, a 17-foot moving vehicle with the 5M Moving Solutions logo and Matthews’ contact information in black lettering, was last parked outside the Sunoco gas station at Hamilton and Webb. Matthews had been using this location for years, as the city did not allow him to park the commercial vehicle in his driveway.
“I couldn’t believe it. You know, it has my logo on it. My name. My number. All my credentials. I never thought somebody would steal something with that much identifying marks on it,” he explained.
Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the moment the truck was driven off the lot around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. Unfortunately, the footage did not reveal any faces, but Matthews has reported the theft to the police.
“I lost everything,” Matthews said. “This is my livelihood. This is how I feed my family, pay my bills, and ensure my children have heat, lights, gas, and water.”
He is urging anyone who sees the truck or has information about the theft to come forward.
“You took an income stream away from people that was eating and surviving off this truck,” Matthews said. “I need it back!”
Matthews has filed a report with the Detroit police, but he remains hopeful that the community can help him recover his stolen truck and equipment.
A GoFundMe has been established to help Matthews keep his business viable while the search for the truck is ongoing. You can donate here.
