Teen arrested, charged in deadly 2022 shooting on Detroit’s west side

Suspect would have been 17 at the time of the shooting

DETROIT – A 19-year-old has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder for a 2022 shooting that killed a 32-year-old man.

Darnell Jerome Franklin Jr. was arrested March 20, 2025, more than two years and three months after the shooting.

According to authorities, Derrell Rockette was shot multiple times near the intersection of Ashton and Pickford avenues on Dec. 10, 2022. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.

An investigation into the shooting resulted in Franklin’s arrest.

Franklin has been charged with first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed weapon with unlawful intent and two counts of felony firearm.

If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
