Watch: Mackinac Bridge closes after more ice falls from suspended cables, towers

Mackinac Bridge closed to all traffic

The Mackinac Bridge closed overnight after more ice was seen falling from the suspended cables.

Officials posted videos capturing ice plummeting onto the bridge early Wednesday morning.

Tuesday evening, crews were able to reopen the bridge as temperatures dipped below freezing. However, a lot of ice remained on the cables and towers, and the winds in the straights began shaking the cables, causing the bridge to close again.

It’s unclear when the bridge will reopen.
