Turkey dubbed ‘unofficial mascot’ of Troy courthouse

Tom first showed up a few years ago

TROY, Mich. – Meet Tom, a chill turkey who spends time outside the Troy courthouse in Oakland County.

Tom first showed up a few years ago, and he’s been a hit ever since.

The people who work inside told Local 4 that Tom has become the courthouse’s unofficial mascot.

“So this is Tom. He is our courthouse turkey.

We never planned on having Tom here as he’s taking up his little space.

He tends to stay in the corner. He’s been around four or five years now.

Every so often, he ventures out, which is when we have our turkey alert where we let everybody know that Tom’s walking around and they can go take a view.”

Troy Deputy Court Administrator Breana Purdy

It’s unclear precisely what draws Tom to the outside of the courthouse, but some have noticed the building’s air conditioning sounds similar to a turkey call.
