Speeding Jeep causes deadly rollover crash in Livingston County

Intersection closed for hours during investigation

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 35-year-old woman from Howell was killed Tuesday when her vehicle was struck by a speeding Jeep.

It happened at about 4 p.m., April 8, at the intersection of Rickett and Maltby roads in Green Oak Township. According to authorities, an 81-year-old man from Whitmore Lake was speeding when they struck a blue GMC Terrain.

The intersection is a 4-way stop in a residential area, with each direction of travel having two stop signs on both sides of the road, and a flashing traffic light above the intersection.

When first responders arrived, they found that both drivers and a passenger were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extricated.

The driver of the GMC died at the scene. Her passenger -- a 50-year-old woman from Howell -- and the driver of the Jeep were both seriously injured and were taken to University of Michigan Hospital for treatment.

The intersection was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash.
