FERNDALE, Mich. – Police in Ferndale have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a DoorDash delivery driver.
Background: Man found shot to death on Woodward Avenue in Oakland County
It happened March 9, near Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. Police said they received a 911 call just before 2 a.m. reporting shots fired, followed by a second 911 call from someone who found a man collapsed outside a Ford Escape on the Woodward Avenue bridge over Eight Mile Road.
Police said they found Mamadou Diallo, a 26-year-old man from Detroit, who had been shot in the chest. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
It was the day before his 27th birthday.
Police said they learned Diallo was working as a DoorDash delivery driver at the time and had picked up an order from White Castle just before the shooting. According to authorities, his vehicle was nearly hit by a speeding GMC truck before abruptly switching lanes. The driver of the truck reportedly slowed down near Eight Mile Road, allowing Diallo to catch up to the GMC. Police believe six shots were fired from the truck and into Diallo’s vehicle.
It was the first murder in Ferndale since 2016.
Roughly a month later, three people were taken into custody by Ferndale police. One suspect was charged, while the other two have been released pending further investigation. Police said they can’t reveal further details as the investigation is ongoing, but the two are connected to Diallo’s murder.
Terrell Simms, a 39-year-old from Oak Park, was charged Thursday, April 10, with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of felony firearm.
He was denied bond and remanded back to jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 17.
