SOUTHGATE, Mich. – A candlelight vigil lit up the night sky Sunday as family, friends, neighbors and community members offered support and remembered Amber Benedict, who passed away during the sudden and tragic home explosion in Southgate.
“Just seeing how many people loved her -- It just shows what an amazing person she was. She was always willing to do anything and everything someone needed,” said Amber’s sister, Tiffany.
Amber later died from her injuries caused by the massive explosion at the hospital. Her husband is still a patient trying to recover from his injuries at this time. Many people offered their support via FaceTime.
“It’s just nice to see everyone that cares and the prayers,” Robert Added.
As many people mourn, all they can do is remember the good times shared with Amber. All that while the charred remains of the building continue to be a symbol of a horrible situation.
“It’s an eyesore for the neighborhood. The neighbors are really upset about it. They want it to come down quickly. Cause it’s a reminder and it’s devastating to see something like that,” Robert concluded.
