NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The father who was badly injured in the Washtenaw County foster family murder explained what he remembers from the night he was shot in the chest and head before waking up next to his wife’s body.

Jeffrey Bernhard took the stand Wednesday, April 16, 2025, during the preliminary examination for Keith Lamar Finley, 60, and Gregory Dwight Callhan, 37.

Finley and Callhan are charged with murder and a list of other charges in the case.

Bernhard said he was the first person to be shot -- once in the chest and then again in the head. He remembered that he expected to be dead within moments before passing out, he said.

When Bernhard woke up, his wife and father-in-law had been killed.
