Westland dispatcher hears gunshot during murder-suicide 911 call

Couple found dead in Wayne County home

WESTLAND, Mich. – Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide that happened Tuesday evening in Westland.

Police said they received a 911 call just before 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, from a man who said he had shot his girlfriend and was going to shoot himself.

During the 911 call, the dispatcher reportedly heard a gunshot and then silence on the open line afterward.

First responders rushed to the home, located on Surrey Heights Street, just west of the Palmer and John Hix roads intersection and forced their way inside.

Police said they found two bodies inside, 52-year-old Joseph King and 46-year-old Melissa Hattar. They both had been shot to death.

The investigation is ongoing.
