Man charged with attempted murder in shooting of lost teen with autism on Detroit’s east side

Teen mistakenly dropped off in wrong neighborhood by rideshare service

DETROIT – A 47-year-old man from Detroit has been charged in the nonfatal shooting of a teen with autism who was lost.

Robert Lequan Pugh was charged Thursday, April 17, with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent and three counts of felony firearm.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old man with autism from River Rouge was mistakenly dropped off near the intersection of Lenox Street and East Warren Avenue in Detroit on April 9. He reportedly took a photo of a house on Lenox Street to send to a relative to help locate him when Pugh confronted him. When the victim began to walk away from the home, Pugh allegedly fired multiple shots from a handgun, hitting the teen in the back.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.

Pugh turned himself in to police Tuesday, April 15. He was given a $100,000 cash/surety bond, but a bond redetermination hearing is scheduled April 21.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for April 28.
