Inkster police said this isn’t true and that there is no credible evidence to support the post.

The only thing that appears to be true in the post is that police officers exist.

What’s not true about the post?

Notably, the woman in the photograph is not an Inkster police officer, but is a 2019 photo of a SWAT officer who was based out of Lodi in the Central Valley of California. The woman in the shared photograph is wearing a uniform that has a Lodi patch on her shoulder and also a nametag that is different from the name used in the viral social media post.

Additionally, the post claims a Silver Alert has been issued as the woman “may be in extreme danger.” Silver Alerts are typically issued for missing people with mental or neurological disabilities. 28 states and the District of Columbia have Silver Alert systems -- Michigan isn’t one of them. The state uses the Mozelle Senior or Vulnerable Adult Medical Alert Act for vulnerable adults.

What can I do?

Residents are urged to be cautious about sharing unverified information online, as doing so can cause unnecessary fear and divert valuable resources from real situations.

Those who see have questions regarding public safety information are asked to contact police directly for confirmation.
