DETROIT – A surveillance video of a person throwing two cats out of a moving vehicle at a Detroit gas station has been trending on social media.
Animal Cruelty Investigators and police are now investigating.
“To see something like that in today’s society, man, is really heartbreaking,” said customer Mike Hudson.
Hudson could not stand the fact that he was pumping gas in almost the exact same place where someone decided to toss two kittens out of a moving car at the BP Gas station on 7 Mile Road and Grand River Avenue Monday (April 21) morning.
“Animal, human, whatever, it’s a life. You threw that out here. You didn’t even care,” Hudson said.
One cat was clearly injured, bouncing around from the agony of pain. The other is left with no choice but to heartbreakingly watch on.
It’s unclear if the cat had injuries prior to being tossed, but it appears to have also been run over by the driver as they took off.
We’re not sure if that was intentional. Either Way, Michigan Humane President and CEO Matt Pepper says the mistreatment of cats in the city is all too common.
“As someone who has worked in law enforcement on animal cruelty investigations for my entire career, I know that someone capable of doing something like this is not a safe person. They’re capable of doing something to humans, to your neighbors, to your children,” said Matt Pepper, president and CEO of the Michigan Humane Society.
Regardless of the circumstances, animal lovers who watched the triggering video saw red, according to comments on social media.
“When they see the video, man, people are gonna be angry,” Hudson said.
As for the person driving the vehicle, investigators are working to find them as soon as possible.
“We are gonna identify the address and make contact with the suspect and see where that goes,” Pepper said.
“You need to find this guy, or this woman, whoever it was, and get this done. Cause we don’t need this in society. We have a lot going on now. We don’t need anything like this, man,” Hudson said.
Investigators now have the almost seemingly impossible task of locating the cat that survived. In the meantime, if you recognize the White SUV, police want to hear from you.
