GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. – An early morning stop for coffee and a scratch-off lottery ticket led a Michigan man to a $1 million prize.
The 45-year-old Genesee County man, who decided to stay anonymous, purchased his winning $46,000,000 Payout ticket at Admiral Petroleum, located at 7561 Miller Road in Swartz Creek.
The man told Michigan Lottery officials that he buys lottery tickets every week.
“I buy lottery tickets every Friday,” said the player. “I never expect to win the top prize, but I always hope to win a few dollars or at least break even.”
The player said he scanned the ticket multiple times to ensure he read it correctly once he saw he’d won a $1 million prize.
“It was early in the morning, so I stopped at the gas station to buy a coffee and a lottery ticket,” said the player. “I scratched the ticket when I got in my car and had to scan it at least five times to make sure I was reading it right after I saw I had won $1 million! This prize is life-changing and is going to give me opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise had.”
The Genesee County man recently claimed his prize as a one-time lump sum of about $694,000. He plans to buy a new car, start a nonprofit and go back to school with his prize money.
Each $46,000,000 Payout ticket is $10, and since it launched in early April 2025, players have won more than $4 million.
