DETROIT – Police are seeking information in the hit-and-run incident that left one woman dead while injuring a man on Detroit’s east side.

The incident occurred on Saturday (April 19) at 1:20 a.m. in the area of Gratiot Avenue and East Grand Blvd. when 44-year-old Juan White Smiley and her 43-year-old boyfriend were struck while riding a scooter by an unknown suspect driving a dark colored Jeep Wrangler.

Smiley was pronounced deceased at the scene, while her boyfriend was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Detectives want to speak to the person of interest who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have information about the crime.
