Comfortable air returns Friday before weekend storm chances

Cooler stretch of weather builds in next week.

After several days of heat and humidity, a refreshing change has arrived across Metro Detroit. Sunny skies, a steady breeze, and noticeably lower humidity will make for a much more comfortable day today. Afternoon temperatures will top out in the low 80s, offering ideal conditions for outdoor activities, yard work, or simply enjoying a break from the summer humidity.

The comfortable weather won’t last long, however, as temperatures begin climbing again on Saturday. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s as warmer and more humid air returns to Southeast Michigan ahead of the next weather system. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday night and continue into early Sunday. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated at this time, a few storms could become strong to severe, bringing gusty winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

Temperatures will take a noticeable tumble behind system for the second half of the weekend. Highs on Sunday will struggle to get out of the mid-70s as cooler air filters into the region. The start of next week looks pleasant and relatively quiet, with dry weather and seasonable temperatures remaining in place through at least Tuesday. Highs will stay in the 70s with comfortable humidity levels. We will enter another active weather pattern by the middle of next week, bringing renewed chances for showers and thunderstorms while temperatures remain near or slightly below average for mid-June.
