DETROIT – It’s almost that time of year. Spring is in the air, which means March Madness is near.

And to many, the NCAA college basketball tournament is the best sporting event around. Three weeks of non-stop action with tons of upsets. What could be better in the world of sports where too often the favorites rule?

As for what you can expect, get ready for a tournament filled with surprises at every turn. Houston is the number one team in the country today. But they always puff out their chests and make a lot of noise. But it never lasts.

Don’t be stunned if Houston is gone before the Elite Eight!

As for local teams, Michigan won’t make the NCAA’s unless they win the Big Ten Tournament. And they’re not going to win the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan State had a lot of preseason hype, but they’ve been like a roller coaster.

Up and down and far too often they’re in the down position. Oakland has had a terrific season. But if they can get into the NCAA’s and win a game in the tournament, their mission will be accomplished.

For our money, don’t forget the women’s tournament and Caitlin Clark. She’s been the star of college basketball this season, either men’s or women’s.
