DETROIT – According to senior lead NBA insider Shams Charania, the Detroit Pistons, under President Trajan Langdon’s new leadership, are set to part ways with their general manager, Troy Weaver.
Shams posted to X Friday (May 31) afternoon about the forthcoming parting of ways, saying:

The Pistons believe Langdon can lead the franchise from the front office.
He was hired to oversee everyone, including Weaver, as the historic Bad Boys franchise is coming off back-to-back abysmal seasons.
Since COVID, the Pistons can’t win for losing, as they have finished with the best odds to land the No. 1 pick. They’ve even lost that, as they’ve collected the No. 5 pick in the NBA draft lottery for the third year in a row.
Weaver was hired in 2020 due to his success with the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise, where he surrounded Kevin Durant with draft picks, including Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, and James Harden.
Fans were ecstatic as they felt under his leadership, they too could end their playoff drought (last appeared in 2009) and return to prominence with elite talent in the draft.
But he’s swung and missed on a ton of picks and overlooked some top players during his tenure, for example:

In four seasons in the front office, Weaver’s teams have a 23% win percentage, yet they finished the 2024 season with a worse record than they did in 2023.

The team hopes Langdon, who rebuilt the New Orleans Pelicans for the past five seasons, can clean up Weaver’s mess.
Langdon is also a student of the game, as he played for three years in the National Basketball Association. Not to mention, his agent is Arn Tellum, who is the Pistons vice chairman, so both sides are already well acquainted.
