DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers keep winning, so their playoff odds have continued their meteoric rise.
Since returning to Comerica Park for a six-game home stand to finish the regular season, the Tigers have won the first two games of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

When they started the series, the Tigers were one game ahead of the Minnesota Twins for the final wild card spot, and their odds to make the postseason were at 70.3%, according to Fangraphs.
Those odds skyrocketed to 87.2% on Tuesday, when the Tigers beat the Rays and the Twins lost to the Marlins.
After Wednesday night’s win, the Tigers are up to 91.4%, even though the Twins also won.
It’s astounding to see the Tigers with more than a 90% chance to make the playoffs after they were 10 games out of the race just a couple short months ago.
Detroit is the best team in baseball over the past 40 games, winning 29 times. The Twins, Royals, Red Sox, and Mariners have all had their share of struggles over that span, which is why the Tigers have risen so quickly up the ranks.
As it stands, the Tigers are two games ahead of the Twins and tied with the Royals. Since Kansas City won the head-to-head series, the Tigers currently occupy the third and final wild card spot.
The Tigers finish the season with three home games against the Chicago White Sox, who are currently tied for the MLB record with 120 losses. That’s definitely playing into those playoff odds, as well.
