DETROIT – We now know who the Detroit Lions will play in their first playoff game next weekend.
With a win on the road over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the No. 6 seed Washington Commanders punched their ticket to the divisional round on Sunday night.
They will travel to Detroit for a Saturday night matchup at Ford Field with kickoff slated for 8 p.m.
Since the No. 7 seed Packers already lost to the Eagles earlier in the day, the Commanders are guaranteed to be the worst seed to advance to the divisional round.
The Lions are the No. 1 seed, so NFL reseeding rules give them a home game against the worst-seeded team to survive the wildcard round.
That means the Commanders are heading to Ford Field.
Rookie phenom Jayden Daniels led Washington to a surprise 12-5 season. He’s expected to win Rookie of the Year after taking the league by storm with both his arm and his legs.
The Lions and Commanders didn’t meet this season. They last played in Week 2 of 2022 -- Detroit’s only win during a 1-6 start to the year.
In the other NFC divisional round game, the Eagles will host the winner of the Vikings-Rams.
