DETROIT – The Detroit Pistons have acquired K.J. Martin and two draft picks in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, per Marc Stein.
Martin, 24, was a late second-round pick in 2020 and has played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers before going to Philadelphia.
He’s averaging 6.4 points and 3 rebounds per game this season, but hasn’t played since Dec. 23, 2024. This move essentially allows the 76ers to clear some cap space, and the Pistons don’t lose cap space because he fits under their “mid-level exception.”
Detroit is also receiving the Milwaukee Bucks' second-round pick in 2027 and the Dallas Mavericks' second-round pick in 2031.
The Pistons have been a pleasant surprise this season, sitting at 25-25 and the No. 6 spot in the Eastern Conference.
Although they’re not expected to make any major splashes before the NBA trade deadline, the Pistons have enough cap space and motivation to take on salary and make minor improvements to an already solid roster.
