DETROIT – Detroit Pistons legendary play-by-play announcer George Blaha has been selected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made ahead of the NBA All-Star Weekend, where Blaha was revealed as one of the 2025 Curt Gowdy Media Award winners.

The Gowdy Award is presented to print, electronic, and transformative media members whose efforts significantly contributed to the game of basketball.
Blaha called almost 4,000 Pistons games since his introduction during his first season in 1976. His legendary voice has called all three of the Pistons’ NBA championship seasons, from 1989 to 1990 and 2004.
He is also the voice of the Michigan State Spartans football program. Blaha was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
He has also been named Michigan Sports Broadcaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sports Writers Association twice in his illustrious career.
