Three people were ejected and five were injured this weekend when some teenagers with fake IDs left a bar in St. Clair County and caused a rollover crash by trying to pass each other in pickup trucks, police said.

Berlin Township head on crash kills one, other driver flees scene
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. One person was killed in a head on crash in Berlin Township early Friday morning, while the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot. Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriffs Office were dispatched to Dryden Road and Cameron Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Friday. A 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis was found in the ditch in the area. An investigation into the crash found that the driver of the Grand Marquis, 49-year-old Robert John White of Capac died. The driver of the Jeep is believed to be a 39-year-old Berlin Township man.
โMy fault, I was speeding with another vehicleโ: Police clock driver going 180 on I-75 in Monroe County
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police clocked a driver traveling 110 mph over the speed limit on I-75 in Monroe County earlier this month. The driver was pulled over at about 11:45 p.m. April 19 for driving 180 mph in a 70 mph zone on southbound I-75 near Sigler Road in Berlin Township. According to the citation, the driver told police, โMy fault. I was speeding with another vehicle. Police said there has been an increase in speeding during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Boil water advisory issued for Berlin Township residents
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A boil water advisory has been issued for residents in Monroe Countyโs Berlin Township due to a water main break. In the advisory issued Wednesday morning, Berlin Township officials advise residents west of I-75 and west of Swan Creek Road, including Newport Road west of I-75, North Park, Newport Estates, Birchwood sub, Newport Woods and Newport Farms, are encouraged to boil water for the next three days or until further notice before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and washing fruits and vegetables. Residents and business might experience lower water pressure, a loss of water or discolored water from taps. The township said this boil water advisory is due to a water main break on Newport Road west of I-75. Local officials will notify the public when the advisory is lifted after repairs are made and proper testing has been completed, the township said.
Man with hammer traps, punches, bites teenage girlfriend in car along I-75, police say
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Detroit man wielding a hammer trapped his teenage girlfriend in a car, punched her multiple times and bit her along I-75 in Berlin Township, officials said. Monroe County deputies were called last week to northbound I-75 under the Ready Road overpass, according to authorities. The Regal had been reported stolen out of Detroit, officials said. After a traffic stop, the woman told deputies that McNeil had punched her multiple times and threatened her with a hammer in the car. Officials said the two got back into the car and McNeil locked the doors so his girlfriend couldnโt escape.
Investigation launched after shooting at Monroe County apartment complex
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday night at Newport Woods Apartments. On Friday at 8:40 p.m., troopers from the Monroe Post went to the parking lot of Newport Woods Apartments in response to reports of gunfire. Several people were talking outside a vehicle in the parking lot when two cars pulled up. The first car is described as a silver Ford Focus and the other was a black Ford Fusion. The gunman is described as a black man in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.
Tanker jack-knives on I-75, hit by bus full of youth football players
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the tanker then slammed into a guardrail north of Sigler Road. The tanker was hit by a charter bus that was filled with 9-and-10-year-old football players from the Southfield Jayhawks that were on their way to Tennessee for a national tournament. The bus was a caravan of four -- only the lead bus was involved in the crash. Its driver, 57-year-old Kaye Chatman, managed to steer the bus out of the way of other traffic to safety after the impact. "The entire driver's side of the bus was torn -- the driver was in pretty bad shape -- we're so thankful for the bus driver," Chambers said.
