Two Wayne County women will be representing Metro Detroit and showing off their incredible baking skills on Food Network Canada.

Believe it or not, Halloween is just four weekends away which means it’s time for some scary good fun and of course, chocolate. One new show is combining the two by leaving the lights on at an amusement park after the doors are closed to guests, but the park will not be empty. It’s all for the new show “Chocolate Meltdown” after dark.

ANN ARBOR – For local student Nemo Tsai, 2020 was as normal a year as could be until a casting agent from Food Network reached out to him on Instagram to audition for Season 9 of “Kids Baking Championship.”Nemo’s family has owned Japanese-American fusion restaurant Godaiko and Tsai Grocery in southwest Ann Arbor for more than 25 years. Raised in the kitchen, Nemo was making sushi rolls before he was five years old, and recently took up baking after watching videos on YouTube. “This was the first season that parents get onto the show and react,” said Nemo. ET on Food Network with a double episode. Aside from the title of Kids Baking Champion, the winner of the Kids Baking Championship will take home a grand prize of $25,000 and will get a spot in Food Network Magazine.

Discovery is joining the increasingly crowded streaming fray with its own reality-focused service Discovery Plus that will include shows from the Food Network, HGTV, TLC and its other networks. By comparison, the ad-free Disney Plus costs $7 a month and Netflix' most popular plan costs $14 a month. Discovery CEO David Zaslav first announced the streaming service in late 2019, but did not provide details until now. Discovery Plus joins a slew of new streaming services started to challenge traditional TV providers and dominant streaming services like Hulu and Netflix over the past year, including Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max and Comcast’s Peacock service. The service will role out in 25 countries in 2021 including Italy, Spain, U.K. and Ireland as well as India.

It’s been a very busy few months for local baker Jonathan Peregrino. He’s currently the pastry chef at Oak and Reel in Detroit, the head baker at Tapped Beverages in Canton, and now he’s adding to the list by competing on the Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship. Peregrino left his job in the corporate world to pursue a childhood passion for baking. Now he’s 38, and he’s baking professionally on national television. When Food Network’s casting director first reached out to him on Instagram, Peregrino said he thought it was a joke.

Celebrity Chef and Food Network star, Robert Irvine, is used to helping out restaurants in trouble. Now he is taking on the entire industry and helping restaurant workers who are struggling during the pandemic. Helping restaurants during this time is hugely important to Irvine because it is affecting all levels of the restaurant industry. The show will air on Food Network. Besides helping restaurant workers, Irvine has also been working a new cookbook, Family Table. The book serves as a guide for bringing families back together to the dinner table.

If you fall into that category, celebrity chef and all-around national treasure Ina Garten, also known as the Barefoot Contessa, has the perfect cocktail recipe for you. All you need is “good” vodka, orange liqueur, cranberry juice, lime juice and a giant martini glass. And no, we’re not kidding when we say a giant martini glass -- just check out the video of Garten making the drink on her Instagram, below. And as Garten always says, “How easy was that?”
