DETROIT – A new development project is underway in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood that will offer over 200 apartments and ground-floor retail space. Construction of Woodward West, a $60 million mixed-use development project, broke ground on Nov. 9 on Woodward Avenue at Stimson Street. Slated to open in the summer of 2022, the five-story structure plans to offer 204 apartments and 25,000 feet of retail space. Officials say the site is meant to be inclusive of the existing neighborhood and its residents: 20% of Woodward West apartments will be offered as affordable housing, while a portion of the retail space will be reserved as “entrepreneur space” for new businesses, officials said Thursday. DETROIT – The Motor City Match program has helped more than 13,000 businesses in Detroit, ranging from boutiques to nail salons. On Monday, a Motor City Match winner celebrated the opening of her nail salon located in the basement of an apartment building on Second Avenue. After spending years working at salons in the suburbs, she wanted to bring the luxury to the city. Vang said getting to this day took over two years, dealing with a variety of hurdles such as the coronavirus pandemic. As I always say, I want to serve the city that have raised me.

DETROIT – The Detroit Fire Department was on the scene of an apartment fire in Midtown on Monday. Residents were rescued from the apartment. Crews were seen at an apartment building in the 600 block of W. Bethune Avenue around 10:30 a.m.As of 11 a.m. there was no longer smoke or flames in the apartment. DETROIT – The Detroit Health Department officially announces the relocation of its Immunization Clinic from the Samaritan Center on the city’s east side at 5555 Conner Street, to its headquarters at 100 Mack Avenue in Midtown. Health Department staff officially made the move to the new location on September 8, centrally located just steps from the Woodward Avenue and Mack Avenue bus lines. The Health Department’s newly relocated Immunization Clinic offers six newly-renovated examination rooms that will serve a higher volume of patients. “The move to Midtown supports our mission to build healthy communities for all families,” said Najibah Rehman, MD, MPH, Medical Director, Detroit Health Department. The Detroit Health Department Immunization Clinic is open by appointment only, Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. To accommodate students participating in in-person learning at a Detroit charter or public school, the clinic will also open on Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., now through November 1.

Starting Wednesday and running through next Thursday is a cultural concert event in Midtown that draws tens of thousands of people every year.
