Temperatures are in the upper 50s for those of you are heading out and about before the sun rises over Metro Detroit. We will then warm into the lower 60s for the rest of the morning. Watch out for some patchy fog, especially in rural and hilly areas.

TGIF! If Friday (April 1) was Mother Nature’s idea of an April Fools joke, I’m not amused. April, of course, can be a very fickle month. DETROIT – Sneaky sunshine had temperatures soaring Wednesday afternoon to the 50s. We may not get there again in this forecast, but many of the numbers won’t be far behind. Mild February FinishAfter a solid two weeks of below normal temperatures, Mother Nature is delivering all the backordered warmth for the end of the month. Monday’s high in the 50s was well above normal, but didn’t get close to the record of 70 degrees, which was set only in 2017. That will bring us back to the 30s for Tuesday’s high temperatures.

Two rounds of snow on the wayThere are two waves of snow arriving in Detroit and Southeast Michigan from late tonight through Tuesday. Much of will be gone after breakfast, Monday morning, with one to two inches possible. AdPresidents Day, Monday afternoon will be mostly cloudy and very cold. The second round of snow makes an impact on the region late Monday afternoon, Monday evening, Monday night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be very cold with afternoon temperatures in the upper teens.

NORTHVILLE, Mich. I can tell you, I heard a big bang around 12 something, like lightning or something that hit someplace, said Katherine Lawrence. Thats when she went to her window, I can see my neighbor next door, flames coming from the back of the house, said Lawrence. She knocked on her neighbors door to try and wake them up, Pound, pound and you could just see the flames coming in there, theyre an older couple. They finally came out, and I just went from house to house, and bang on their doors, to wake them up. From the flames, you could see sparks going up and I heard a boom, like something inside the house might have exploded, said Foley.

The new decade has arrived, and Mother Nature’s first gift to us all is an amazing meteor shower that will take place this weekend. The Quadrantid meteor shower will be easiest to see during the predawn hours Saturday, but is expected to begin late Friday. The Quadrantid meteor shower, which is known to produce 50-100 meteors, was named for a constellation that exists no more: the Quadrans Muralis. An astronomer by the name of Peter Jenniskens identified the parent body of the shower in 2003 as the asteroid 2003 EHI. EarthSky reported that if the asteroid is indeed the Quadrantid shower’s parent, the meteors come from a rocky body — not an icy comet.

History was made in Missoula, where the city broke its September snowfall record of 1.5 inches set in 1934.
