The Australian race in Melbourne, initially set to open the season on March 21, has been rescheduled to Nov. 21 with F1 organizers citing โthe ongoing situation regarding COVID-19โ. The Chinese Grand Prix has also been postponed but no new date has been set for the race. The season will start with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28 at Sakhir, less than four months after the same venue held two races as part of the 2020 season.

"It's a complicated situation for them," Jean-Eric Vergne, former Ferrari test driver and current Formula E world champion, told CNN. Criticism leveled at Formula One for becoming a Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes procession is not unfounded, though the races in Hungary, Germany, Britain and Austria were anything but. Max Verstappen in the Red Bull was their nearest challenger but still almost an entire second slower than Leclerc. Vergne believes that while Ferrari is Mercedes' biggest threat, Verstappen is the individual on the grid Hamilton should fear most.
