2020 Americaโs Thanksgiving Parade: What to expect Thursday morning
DETROIT โ We are hours away from the virtual Americaโs Thanksgiving Parade Thursday morning -- one of many things that will be different from past years. โItโs going to be enjoyable and itโs going to give people the opportunity to wake up on Thanksgiving morning and feel great,โ said Tony Michaels, CEO and president of the Parade Company. The theme of the parade is โWe Are One Togetherโ -- a tribute to frontline workers and heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. โThe Grand Marshals this year are nine different people representing nine industries that were on the frontline and continue to be on the frontline,โ Michaels said. Themed โWe Are One Together,โ this yearโs parade will honor frontline workers and heroes of the COVID-19 crisis. Then, at 8 a.m., Jason Carr and Tati Amare host โAmericaโs Thanksgiving Parade Preview with Live in the D.โโAmericaโs Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner-Whiteโ starts at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, including a one-hour syndicated national broadcast from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. reaching more 185 major cities across the country (check local TV listings). A very different Ford Fireworks display takes place Monday
DETROIT The Ford Fireworks is a Metro Detroit tradition that needed to be changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show will not happen over the Detroit River in Downtown Detroit. Michaels said the 2020 Ford Fireworks is 25% larger than last years event. Detroitโs Ford Fireworks to be held Aug. 31 as TV-only display without crowds
DETROIT โ Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced the annual Ford Fireworks will be held on Monday, Aug. 31, without crowds, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event, typically held in late June to celebrate upcoming Canada Day and the Fourth of July, brings thousands of Metro Detroit residents to the Detroit Riverfront to enjoy the show. This yearโs event will be a televised-only display without the usual crowds on the Riverfront and around Downtown Detroit. โThe Ford Fireworks this year will honor them and their brave work.โThis yearโs Ford Fireworks show is themed, โWe Are One Together.โ The Parade Companyโs Rooftop Party presented by Ford, one of the non-profitโs largest fundraisers, will not occur this year. Detroit Youth Choir to open America's Thanksgiving Day Parade
DETROIT - The Detroit Youth Choir, which is having a successful run on "America's Got Talent," will be the opening act at the 93rd America's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The choir will perform at 10 a.m. Nov. 28. "We are elated to have this remarkable group celebrated once again on a national stage when they open the parade for us on Thanksgiving morning," said Tony Michaels, president & CEO of The Parade Company. "The Detroit Youth Choir shines a light on what is possible in Detroit." DYC is performing on the live semifinal of "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday night.
