Flint-Beecher tornado: The 69th anniversary of Michiganโs deadliest tornado
On Monday, June 8, 1953, disaster struck the north side of Flint and the northern suburb of Beecher. The National Weather Service reported that the Flint-Beecher tornado was Michiganโs worst natural disaster in terms of deaths and injuries.
Hanna becomes first hurricane of 2020 Atlantic season
MIAMI Tropical Storm Hanna was upgraded to a hurricane Saturday, moving toward the Texas coast and threatening to bring heavy rain, storm surge and possible tornadoes, all while another tropical storm approaches the Caribbean. Hanna is the first hurricane of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its Saturday morning update. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Gonzalo was still on track to move across the southern Windward Islands on Saturday afternoon or evening. A tropical storm warning was in effect for Tobago and Grenada and its dependencies. Gonzalo and Hanna broke the record for the earliest seventh and eighth Atlantic named storms, respectively, according to Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach.
Michigan weather: Tornadoes possible as severe storms move across state
DETROIT Meteorologist are forecasting the chance for tornadoes in Michigan as severe weather moves across the state on Wednesday. In southeastern Michigan, severe weather is expected Wednesday afternoon between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Other potential hazards include damaging wind gusts (up to 70 mph) and large hail.
