Netflix's โCutiesโ becomes target of politicized backlash
The backlash to the French independent film โMignonnes,โ or โCuties,โ started before it had even been released because of a poster that went viral for its provocative depiction of its young female actors. At the heart of the backlash is the idea that โCutiesโ is dangerously and irresponsibly sexualizing pre-teen girls, which, ironically, is what the movie itself is criticizing too. She becomes fascinated with a clique of rebellious girls at her middle school who choreograph dance routines and wear crop tops and heels. Netflix acquired โCutiesโ out of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where it was favorably reviewed and won an award for its direction. โOur girls see that the more a woman is overly sexualized on social media, the more she is successful.

Where do the remaining Democratic candidates stand on the big issues?
A field of Democratic candidates that was at one point more than two dozen has, for the moment, been whittled down. Candidates that do want a $15 minimum wage are Biden, Sanders, Warren, Gabbard, and Bloomberg. Biden wants to raise corporate taxes, but keep them lower than they were before 2017. College cost - Gabbard, Sanders and Warren feel college should be free. On the other side, Biden wants to increase defense spending.
3rd-party bid? Gabbard's denials don't ease Democrats' fears
The Hawaii congresswoman and Democratic presidential candidate appeared on Tucker Carlson's show on Fox News. She denounced Hillary Clinton as the "personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long." That's feeding fears among party leaders and pundits that Gabbard isn't necessarily aiming to win a Democratic primary but is laying the groundwork to run as a third-party candidate. Gabbard repeatedly denies planning an independent candidacy, as she did Wednesday when she told ABC's "The View" that she's "running to build a new Democratic Party." In 2000, Green Party candidate Ralph Nader netted 2.74% of the popular vote and was blamed by Democrats for tipping Florida, and the presidency, to Republican George W. Bush.

Gabbard said on ABC's "The View" on Wednesday that she's "running to build a new Democratic Party." She added that she's said "no every time" she's been asked if she would launch a third-party bid. Democratic Party Chairman Tom Perez says Gabbard "enthusiastically" pledged last week that she wouldn't continue if she lost.
Tulsi Gabbard: Release documents related to Saudis and 9/11
(AP Photo/Mary Altaffer)NEW YORK, NY Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard joined relatives of Sept. 11 victims on Tuesday in demanding that the federal government release the findings of its investigation into the Saudi government's role in the Sept. 11 attacks. She said the victims' families "want the truth, and they deserve the truth." Plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit seeking the release of documents that they believe link the attackers to Saudi government officials joined Gabbard at a museum near the former site of the twin towers. Messages seeking comment were left with the U.S. Department of Justice and with an attorney for the Saudi government. The Saudi government has repeatedly denied involvement in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, though 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis.

Tulsi Gabbard, the most searched candidate during debate, sues Google
(CNN) - Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's presidential campaign sued Google on Thursday after the company suspended the candidate's Google Ads account following last month's Democratic presidential debate. After the first Democratic debate last month, Google released data that showed the Hawaii representative was the most searched candidate during the first debate. On June 28, two days after the debate, "Google suspended Tulsi's Google Ads account without warning," the suit alleges. "For hours, as millions of Americans searched Google for information about Tulsi, and as Tulsi was trying, through Google, to speak to them, her Google Ads account was arbitrarily and forcibly taken offline," the campaign alleges. The Gabbard campaign, however, alleges in its lawsuit: "Google (or someone at Google) didn't want Americans to hear Tulsi Gabbard's speech, so it silenced her."
Gabbard slams Harris as 'not qualified to serve as commander in chief'
(CNN) - Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard on Tuesday took aim at presidential primary rival Sen. Kamala Harris, arguing the California Democrat "lacks the temperament" to be commander in chief. "Kamala Harris is not qualified to serve as commander in chief and I can say this from a personal perspective as a soldier," Gabbard said on Fox Sports Radio. "She has no background or experience in foreign policy and she lacks the temperament that is necessary for commander in chief." Gabbard and Harris will share the debate stage during the second night of CNN's Democratic primary debates on July 31. Gabbard said Tuesday that Harris' lack of military experience would continue a "dangerous" cycle that would exacerbate the US "military industrial complex."
