SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Washtenaw County police are asking Superior Township residents to avoid an active police situation in the area of Meadow Drive and Gale Road, between Cherry Hill and Vreeland roads, on Thursday morning. According to the Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office, a gunman has barricaded himself inside a home in the 5600 block of Meadow Drive as of 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Officials say the situation began as a domestic altercation between the gunman and his parents. Family members were safely evacuated from the home Wednesday morning, but the gunman refused to come out and remained inside the home. The gunman is still barricaded inside the home.
Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office begins vaccinating Washtenaw County Jail population
PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ On Monday, the Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office announced it is now vaccinating incarcerated individuals at Washtenaw County Jail against the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Due to their close quarters, those within the jail are susceptible to outbreaks and have the potential to become โcommunity spreadersโ, officials said. In a statement, Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry Clayton highlighted steps WCSO and its partners have taken during the pandemic to reduce the risk of spreading the virus within the jail. Those entering the jail can receive the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. WCSO also has an online tracking COVID-19 data within Washtenaw County Jail.
Man wanted for questioning in Ypsilanti Township homicide of 32-year-old
A person is wanted for questioning by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office regarding a homicide in Ypsilanti Township. YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office is investigating the homicide of a young man that happened Saturday. Henry Peoples Ross, 32, was found by deputies after being shot in the driverโs seat of a vehicle, according to the WCSO. His body was found by deputies who were responding to a single vehicle crash in the northwest corner of the Ranches of Rosebrook apartment complex near Russell Boulevard in Ypsilanti Township. The person pictured above is wanted for questioning in connection with the case.

Washtenaw County deputies investigate death of 41-year-old man found in burning vehicle
SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office is investigating the death of 41-year-old Luis Rivera-Estrada in Superior Township. Deputies said that at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 19, authorities were dispatched to a vehicle on fire near Clark and LeForge roads. Rivera-Estrada was found dead inside after first responders were able to extinguish the fire. No further information was released at this time. Warning issued about possible police impersonator in Washtenaw County
YPSILANTI, Mich. โ A 26-year-old man recently reported a suspicious Washtenaw County based traffic stop involving a possible police impersonator. On Thursday, Feb. 11 at around 7:30 p.m. the Ypsilanti man called police to report the traffic stop he was involved in. According to the Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office, the vehicle that pulled him over had red and blue lights. The Ypsilanti man then drove off since he knew the interaction was suspicious. Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office forgives over $500,000 in jail debt
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ The Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office announced that it has forgiven $509,888 of outstanding debt incurred by 31,614 individuals while at Washtenaw County Jail. The decision, made by Sheriff Jerry Clayton and supported by the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners, affects community members incarcerated between January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2020. โOur decision to eliminate this debt reflects our understanding of the stress and financial burden of incarceration,โ said Clayton through a release. AdThe sum of $509,888 was identified after a review of the jail debt owed since 2013. In 2019, it increased the amount of money an indigent incarcerated individual was allowed from $3 per week to $5 per week and expanded what items that money could buy.

Man arrested for breaking into parked vehicles in Canton
CANTON, Mich. โ On Wednesday Canton officers arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of breaking into parked vehicles. Police have been investigating the recent increase in thefts from vehicles in the Geddes and Beck roads area after a resident reported suspicious behavior that was captured on home security cameras. The officers searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 team from the Washtenaw County Sheriffโs Office, which led to the arrest of the man. During the investigation, police officers also located a stolen vehicle parked in the area. The man is currently being held in police custody pending case review by the Wayne County Prosecutorโs Office.
