New orders extend protections for Michigan nursing home residents and staff, grocery store workers
LANSING, Mich. โ Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed two new executive orders on Saturday that extend protections for frontline workers at grocery stores, pharmacies and long-term care facilities amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. One of the new orders, 2020-178, focuses on protecting customers and staff members at grocery stores and pharmacies. Frontline workers in our hospitals, grocery stores, nursing homes, and more have put their own lives on the line to protect our families,โ Whitmer said. Still, the governorโs office says that this week Whitmer is reviewing recommendations made by the stateโs Nursing Homes COVID-19 Preparedness Task Force and will implement any changes following her review. The executive orders signed Saturday are extensions of previous executive orders Whitmer enacted at the beginning of the pandemic -- which were most recently extended on August 10 and were slated to expire on September 7.

Frontline Heroes: A day in the life of a Rochester Hills grocery store worker
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. Audrey B. has spent nine of her 23 years on earth working at Hollywood Market in Rochester Hills. Shes sort of a jack or maybe a jill-of-all-trades at the store and has always been a solid worker. Before I left, I had one more question for her, whats up with the toilet paper hoarding? What is one thing, that if I never got to go to the store again - I couldnt live without it. You cant really make toilet paper. Toilet paper is not one of them.Toilet paper is not one of them and neither is human interaction.
Film shows nightmare of an emergency room in Italy
So it was more frightening, definitely.Achilli's film, Inside Italy's COVID War, is being shown on Frontline at 10 p.m. Tuesday on most PBS stations. While the documentary looks at the crisis through the eyes of an emergency room doctor at Cremona Hospital in northern Italy, the story is universal. Since she's from Italy and her father still lives there, the coronavirus story was more personal. A picture the doctor took of an exhausted colleague circulated widely online, and Achilli reached out before she even traveled to Italy. Mangiatordi's cooperation, and that of her colleagues and family, enabled Frontline to tell the broader story through a personal lens.
Frontline mothers and how you can support them
This Motherโs Day we want to acknowledge the moms who deserve extra special appreciation right now -- the ones working on the front lines now to keep our families safe! Give the best gift you can give this Motherโs Day by donating meals to our local hospital workers. Countless moms have been submitted to Thanking Frontline Workers by their proud children who desperately want to show their love, even from the distance many families must keep right now. Mothers amazed by and worried for their children who are working at the largest hospitals in the state, their floors newly converted to COVID units, are a large chunk of submissions we receive, too. Frontline workers are putting their lives at risk every day, working nonstop, sometimes without even thinking about a meal.
