โMore than cookies and craftsโ: Girl Scouts aims to grow STEM program
Girl Scout troop leaders have spent decades encouraging young girls to explore their potential. In 2017, the Girl Scouts introduced 70 new STEM badges and over the past year, 127 girls across all age levels earned some of those badges. โI think Girl Scouts are so much more than cookies and crafts,โ troop leader Jeni Prahler said. Prahler said that Girl Scouts has evolved immensely since she was a kid. I know when I was a Girl Scout my mom was a leader and she didnโt camp,โ Prahler said.
Chaos as freed Nigerian schoolgirls reunited with families
More than 300 schoolgirls kidnapped last week in an attack on their school in northwest Nigeria have arrived in Jangabe after been freed on Tuesday. Anxious and angry parents who were reunited with the girls after six days of waiting grabbed their daughters and left after shots rang out. The girls, aged 10 and up, had been abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe in Nigeriaโs northwest Zamfara state and were released Tuesday after negotiations. Following the kidnappings, the Zamfara state government announced a curfew, which remains in force. In December, 344 students were abducted from the Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State.
