A man who robbed CVS pharmacies five times -- in Ann Arbor, Saline, Milan, and the same location twice in Van Buren Township -- was arrested when a pharmacist gave him a fake pill bottle installed with a tracker and the thief tried to tell the officers following him that the person they were looking for โran that way.โ

After more than two days of prosecutors laying out their case, the three men suspected in the 2017 killing of Egypt Covington will go to trial. 34th District Tina Brooks Green ruled Thursday there was enough evidence for two men from Toledo and a man from Sumpter Township to face first-degree murder charges at trial. Van Buren police were unable to make much progress with the case and Michigan State Police took over. Prosecutors played a video of an interview with police involving a suspect in the 2017 killing of Egypt Covington from Van Buren Township. In the interview, Shane Evans explains why they came to Covingtonโs house in the first place. He told police that he told the other men that he knew who lived there and that nobody was home. I knew he was out of his house,โ Evans said. They went to the wrong door.โEvansโ indicated that the men entered Egypt Covingtonโs unit.

Prosecutors laid out their case against the three men charged in the 2017 killing of Van Buren Township woman Egypt Covington. Shandon Groom from Sumpter Township was also charged. During a preliminary exam, those closest to Covington testified that she didnโt know the three men. Edwards said he placed Shane Evans with the two others, Moore and Groom, in Sumpter Township. The evidence tech from Sumpter said he couldnโt say what happened to the phone once he bagged it for evidence.
Plane makes emergency landing at Willow Run airport due to mechanical issues
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A small airplane made an emergency landing early Sunday morning at Willow Run Airport. According to authorities, the small aircraft was experiencing mechanical issues and its landing gear did not come down, causing the plane to leave the runway just after midnight. Authorities said the two people onboard were able to exit safely and were unharmed. The investigation into what went wrong is ongoing.
Teen killed, 4 others hurt in Van Buren Township head-on crash, police say
The scene of a Feb. 7, 2021, fatal crash at Belleville and Ecorse roads in Van Buren Township. VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A teenager was killed and four other people were taken to a hospital after a head-on crash in Van Buren Township, police said. Officials with Van Buren Township Public Safety said the two-car crash happened around 6:25 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 7) on Belleville Road, south of Ecorse Road. A 19-year-old Van Buren Township resident, who was riding as a passenger in the G6, was killed in the crash, authorities said. The Van Buren Township Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
Van Buren Township rehabilitation center patient missing after getting into vehicle with women
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police are searching for a 37-year-old woman named Carissa Sheffield who went missing around midnight Sunday after walking away from the Rainbow Rehabilitation Center. Sheffield is a patient at the center and disappeared then after getting into a green Ford Flex with two other Black womenShe is described as Black with braided black hair, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighs 227 pounds. Police do not have information on what she was wearing at the time. Police warned that Sheffield is vulnerable to risky behavior due to mental health issues that include a closed head injury and schizophrenia. A third suspect has been formally charged with murder in the 2017 killing of Van Buren Township woman Egypt Covington. Shandon Ray Groom, a 28-year-old from Toledo was charged Thursday with murder and home invasion three years after Covington was found bound and shot in her home. The arrest is another piece of the puzzle in the case and for her family, itโs another step toward justice. He was charged with felony murder and two counts of first degree home invasion. โIt brings it all to life and we now have faces that we can get mad at instead wondering what we didnโt know,โ Lindsay Brink said.

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Two men are accused of stealing a wallet from a woman who was shopping alone in Van Buren Township. The men preyed on a woman who was shopping alone, police said. A man wearing a black vest distracted the woman by asking her questions while a man in a gray jacket reached into her purse and stole her red wallet. Ohio man arraigned in connection with the murder of Egypt Covington
ROMULUS, Mich. โ At least one of the two people Michigan State Police have in custody in connection with the death of Egypt Covington was arraigned Sunday. According to authorities, Timothy Eugene Moore, a 34-year-old man from Toledo, was arraigned Sunday afternoon on one count of homicide at the 34th District Court in Romulus. Covington, 27, was shot and killed inside her Van Buren Township home on June 23, 2017. When her body was found, her hands were bound with Christmas lights and she had been shot in the head. UPDATE: Timothy Eugene Moore, 34 years old from Toledo, Ohio was arraigned this afternoon on one count of Homicide in the 34th District Court for the murder of Egypt Covington.

Wyandotte woman charged after injuring 1 in hit-and-run during protest in Taylor
WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. โ A 68-year-old Wyandotte woman has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that happened during a Downriver Black Lives Matter protest in June. The incident happened on June 16 at 7:20 p.m. in the 23300 block of Goddard Road. A 45-year-old Van Buren Township woman was injured. When Jones' vehicle was close to the protesters, it is reported that Jones drove through the protesters striking a Van Buren Township woman. The Van Buren Township woman received non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention at the scene.

Westland man charged in fatal stabbing after body found in pickup truck bed
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. Flem Stiltner, IV was charged Wednesday in connection with fatal stabbing of his 48-year-old father, Flem Stiltner, III. According to authorities, at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday a mans body was found in the bed of a pickup truck parked in the weeds near Belleville and Quirk roads in Van Buren Township. Police allege the defendant fatally stabbed his father before placing him in the bed of his pickup truck and driving him to another location. Stiltner, IV was taken into custody Monday. Stiltner has been charged with first degree murder, first degree home invasion and tampering with evidence.
