Expanded testing part of Biden administration school plans
As part of that effort, first lady Jill Biden visited a school in New Hampshire on Wednesday. Also Wednesday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced $10 billion for states to support school COVID-19 testing programs. The Education Department said first lady Jill Biden will deliver opening remarks. The Education Department will begin making the money available this month. AdPresident Biden has ordered states to prioritize teachers in their vaccination plans, and the CDC has released guidelines to help schools reopen.

(AP Photo/Kathy Willens)NEW YORK โ Workers installed 192 glittering Waterford crystal triangles on Times Squareโs New Yearโs Eve ball Sunday in preparation for a pandemic-limited celebration that will lack the usual tightly packed crowds of revelers. The ball is a 12-foot geodesic sphere covered with 2,688 crystal triangles of various sizes. This yearโs addition features a new โGift of Happinessโ design represented by a sunburst of bright cuts radiating outward. The ball blazing with 32,256 LED lights will be dropped at 11:59 p.m. on New Yearโs Eve to ring in 2021.

Members of the Waterford community came out Saturday night to remember a father and daughter. Man accused of killing 6-year-old girl in Waterford Twp. drunken driving crash facing 5 chargesA man accused of being drunk and driving recklessly at the time of a four-car crash that killed a 6-year-old girl and injured her parents in Waterford Township is facing five charges. Trevor Duncan Taylor, 28, of Waterford Township, was driving a white 2016 Hyundai Sonata west on Highland Road at a high speed, according to authorities.
President Trump holds rally in Waterford Friday
President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made his second stop in Michigan this week at the Oakland County International Airport on Friday. During his remarks, President Trump took several shots at Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her response to the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump said his administration is taking an โoptimistic approachโ to tackling the coronavirus pandemic. Due to a recent rise in COVID cases throughout much of the U.S., crowd sizes for Trumpโs campaign rallies have been cut down to 250 attendees. Biden will be joined by President Barack Obama during a campaign stop in Michigan on Saturday.
Michigan officials' advice on indoor dining puts restaurants in tougher spot
WATERFORD, Mich. โ When Michiganโs chief medical executive offered new advice for restaurant customers on Wednesday, it came as a surprise -- especially for restaurant owners. As COVID-19 cases begin to rise rapidly throughout Michigan, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun encouraged people to significantly limit how -- and with whom -- they dine out. โLimit indoor dining with anyone whoโs not in your own household. โItโs been a tough year here at Copperstoneโs Family Dining,โ said Joe Skreli, owner of Copperstoneโs. โWhen the state closed down back in March, this restaurant closed for five months.

Police said they received the 911 call about 3:18 a.m. Officers arrived at the home and were met by a 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. The Michigan Secretary of State is refuting a report that Russians have shared the personal data of nearly every Michigan voter. A report published by a Russian newspaper claims internet users in Russia have stolen information on millions of voters in Michigan, Arkansas, Connecticut, North Carolina and Florida.

WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Clarkston family is in mourning after a fatal incident in White Lake Township on Monday left a man dead and his stepdaughter shaken. The incident happened on Williams Lake Road on the White Lake Township, Waterford border after 6 p.m. on Monday. Officials said a massive tree fell across the road and killed Ron Ohlinger, 42. The family has set up a GoFundMe account, click here to view it. In a statement, DTE said:โWe are aware of the tragic incident that occurred yesterday evening involving a tree that fell on an occupied passenger vehicle in White Lake Township.
VIDEO: Waterford police seek party store burglar
WATERFORD, Mich. Police are looking for a person who broke into the Lakeview Party Store, located on Cass Lake Road, at about 4 a.m. Aug. 14. According to authorities, the burglar -- wearing a baseball cap, blue hooded sweatshirt, sweat pants and dark shoes -- broke the glass door of the shop with a baseball bat. Police said he took cash from two registers before leaving through the broken door. Investigators are asking for the publics assistance in identifying the suspect. Oakland County Sheriffโs patrol car struck by driver operating while intoxicated
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. โ The driver of a red Chevrolet SUV was taken into custody Thursday morning after colliding with an Oakland County Sheriffโs vehicle. According to authorities, the incident happened just after 5 a.m. when a deputy driving northbound on Dixie Highway was struck by an southbound SUV that appeared to be waiting to turn in to a gas station. Police said the SUV abruptly came into the deputyโs lane of travel, who evaded a head-on collision, but was still struck by the SUV. The patrol vehicle sustained major damage to the driver side front and was not drive-able and the Chevrolet SUV had damage to the driver side front panel. Police said the driver of the Chevrolet SUV was determined to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and after an OWI blood draw was completed, the driver of the SUV was lodged at the Oakland County Jail.

A crew of workers from Roof One descended on Mercures house bright and early Thursday in the hot July sun. It all started a few months ago, when Mercures saw Roof Ones owner, Steve McCusker, working in the neighborhood and asked him for an estimate. McCusker knew about Owens Cornings Roof Deployment Project -- a national program that aims to put new roofs over military familys heads for free -- and reached out.
Woman arrested after leading police chase over Mackinac Bridge
OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. A driver was arrested after leading police on a chase over the Mackinac Bridge on Thursday morning. Officials say the driver, a 31-year-old woman from Waterford, initially pulled over but then fled the scene. Stop sticks were successfully deployed and the Volkswagen continued to drive across the Mackinac Bridge on its rims. Police say bridge traffic was halted by the Mackinac Bridge Authority after they were notified of the situation. The woman was then arrested and transported to the Otsego County Jail.
Waterford woman wins $70M Powerball jackpot: All I could do was scream
LANSING, Mich. A stop for Michigan Lottery tickets at her favorite party store led to a Waterford woman winning a $70 million Powerball jackpot. She bought the winning ticket at the Huron Plaza Liquor, located at 694 West Huron Street in Pontiac. "My friend and I stopped at the party store that day to buy some Lottery," Davis said. "I bought a couple scratch offs and decided to get one Mega Millions ticket and one Powerball ticket, too. The last Michigan player to win the Powerball jackpot was Phillip Chippewa, of Suttons Bay.
Michigan Youth Soccer Association releases new guidelines in response to COVID-19 pandemic
WATERFORD, Mich. The Michigan Youth Soccer Association made it clear that they wont do anything yet, but when Michigan does reopen theyll be ready. They titled it, charting the path forward, and they are specific to each phase of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmers reopening plan. Once Michigan is in phase four and beyond, and training is permitted, those attending will still have to follow some rules. Competition is not yet allowed because participants must continue to follow social distancing.
Oakland County recruiting for 2020 Census
Oakland County is recruiting hundreds of workers to help with the 2020 Census. Oakland County Michigan Works! is hosting events at service centers in Novi, Oak Park, Pontiac, Southfield, Troy and Waterford. Theyโre hoping to hire 1,800 temporary workers for jobs that run through September. The event is from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24.

WATERFORD, Mich. โ Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard had just gotten out of a meeting and was in a suit and tie driving down M-59 near Telegraph Road when he saw what looked like a police SUV. โHe looks at me and says, โWho are you?โ And I said, โIโm the sheriff. Bouchard said there was a fake radar mounted on the dashboard and what was supposed to look like a computer aided dispatch computer. The driver is currently in custody at the Oakland County Jail and charges are pending. โWe want to know if anybody had been stopped by this vehicle,โ Bouchard said.

Players travel from Iowa to participate in DCFC tryouts
WATERFORD, Mich. โ Detroit City FC held tryouts for the 2015 season Friday, with over 60 participants showing up and registering for the two-hour event at Oakland Yard in Waterford. Levi Fistrovic, Ross Hendry, Charles McInnes and Kyamran Tairov used to play for NPSL's Quad City team before it became inactive. "Everyone knows about Detroit City FC. "So it's got to be 'you'll never walk alone, walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart." Detroit City FC will open the season with a friendly against the Muskegon Risers on May 9.
